HHI $250k, we pay $0 - grandparents pay for the two kids, roughly the equivalent of $100k a year. Obviously we could never afford this ourselves.
Just curious: why is this your setup? You don’t feel uncomfortable taking that kind of money from family?
Not the previous poster but in most families with generational wealth this is a tradition. Not something that parents are asking for. For several generations the grandparents have paid for private school for all of their grandchildren. Everyone in the family has grown up with this structure and it’s “normal” so there’s no uncomfortable asking and no guilt. In fact, older generations feel obligated to pay it forward bc they received the gift of private education when they were younger.
This. Same situation for us. People really seem to get bent out of shape about this on DCUM though, it's weird.
Are you obtuse or just generally out of touch? You really do not understand why people feel "bent out of shape" at the great disparities in wealth in this country? I find the huge wealth gap in the US to be deeply problematic, but I find annoying people like you who are so completely clueless about their own privilege that I think private school education is a wasted on them.
DP I actually don't understand this mentality at all. Are you 'obtuse'? In your adult state did you not learn the world is unfair in many ways and are only now finding out about it? We pay every cent of our kids tuition. No grandparent help. My parents barely helped me. I went to public school and earned scholarships. I had one medical bill in grad school that they gave me $800 to pay. I still hear about all their generosity from them. I very much understand some people win the parent lottery (not me), some people win the looks lottery (not me), some people win the athletic lottery (not me). God gave me a decent IQ (not 99th% or anything but good enough) and enough drive and determination to accomplish anything I set my mind to. My kids came out like me. I am not jealous of those who won the parent lottery. Everyone has a gift from God that makes them successful if they find it and use it. Stop being jealous and start finding your gift, use it and you won't see the playing field and binary. It's skewed for you too, just in a different way. To answer OPs question - HHI 400-800k. We pay ~150 in tuition.
