absolutely true.  First there are three levels of heaven.  Good, practicing Mormons in good standing get to go to the top heaven, called the "Celestial Heaven" (we other Christians don't get to go there).  There are two other levels.  Then there is the "outer darkness". That is where bad people and those that denounce the Mormon church go.  That's also where practicing homosexuals go (usually by then excommunicated by the Mormon church).

To get into the Celestial Kingdom, a woman must be sealed to a priesthood holder (always male, always straight, unless in the closet).  If a man loses a wife, as a Mormon relative did, he can be sealed to a second woman. They will both become his wives in the Celestial Kingdom.  This is why the Mormon Church has never officially denounced - properly! - its stance on polygamy.  It is possible to have multiple wives in the Celestial Kingdom.

However, the reverse is not true of women.  Women cannnot hold either of the priesthoods and they cannot pull a husband (as the priesthood holder husband does) through the Celestial veil - after the wife has given him her secret name (there's also a secret handshake).

So an unmarried woman in the LDS church cannot get into the Celestial Kingdom.  Which is why there is so much emphasis on marrying.  I'm not making this up. Educate yourself.
