I guarantee that there are state and local governments that are in possession of lands that Native Americans legally owned. Of course, enforcing such claims would require the state and local governments to play along. Los Angeles is giving the land back to this family because the culture of the political elites has changed. This family has been fighting for decades with Los Angeles and the previous political elites would not acknowledge their claims. WHO is in power is often times more important than what the law says.
