US News lists both as lower than UVA so safe to assume their less selective since that's what the rankings measure.[/quote]

No, acceptance rate is not even a factor anymore for USN&WR ranking.
There's not much difference in the ranking in the first place.
NYU is definitely more selective.  
There are relatively more selective schools like BU BC Northeastern Tulane, but relatively ranked low.
These are all more selective than the T30 Wake Forrest.
