Y'all are messing up your kids. By making wearing a two piece bathing suit this big step towards adulthood, instead of just a practical piece of clothing, you are putting all these expectations and implications around it that it need not have. By saying "you can't wear a bikini until you are 16", you are essentially saying "at 16, you are officially sexually alluring, proceed accordingly." Like you are somehow associating wearing a bikini with having sex, when they are unrelated things. People do this with makeup and earrings too. It's this idea that the only reason for women to wear jewelry, makeup, or certain clothing is to attract me who want to have sex with them. It's weird. Lots of women do all these things daily and it has ZERO to do with having sex. Also lots of people have sex who aren't wearing bikinis or earrings. You are messing up your kids by linking these things. Recently my DD and I painted each others nails for fun, and she picked a bright red for her nails. When my mom saw it, she pulled me aside and said that while it's one thing for little girls to wear nail polish, it is "inappropriate" for her to wear red because it's "too sexy." Like with purple nail polish my DD is safe, but in red nail polish she will get sex trafficked. This is what you all sound like. It is nonsensical and actually doing the opposite of what you claim to be doing. You aren't protecting girls, you are exposing them to sexual objectification that they will live with for the rest of their lives once you deem them old enough to "be sexy".
The girl who's told no bikini until 16 is absolutely going to have one and change as soon as she's out of her overbearing parents sight. Much like the girls who aren't supposed to wear makeup and put it on as soon as they are at school.
