I don't think anyone cares if individuals choose to wear masks. It is the judgement and shaming that is the issue. That obviously exists (as witnessed by the Janney partner teacher). For adults, who cares. But our kids are involved here. We are trying to ascertain if our kids are going to receive negative repercussions (socially from peers, educationally from teachers) if they choose to unmask.
Someone here does: Because I want the indoor mandate dropped ASAP and if I see parents masking outdoors, I assume they are likely far from supporting unmasking of kids indoors. Also, because outdoor masking is in most cases a marker of either irrational fear or virtue signaling, and I’d like to see less of either.
Once again, I only care until kids can unmask indoors like adults can. Until then I care somewhat because I don't like seeing support for irrational policies. As the PP said, our kids are involved here. And yes, I am aware we are lucky we don't live in Ukraine, and this isn't the end of the world, but there is a certain urgency to it right now because it's unclear when we will ever unmask if not now when everyone else in the country is doing it and the CDC has given the green light.
Relax
I totally will when my kids are allowed to follow the science. My kid told me yesterday how a lot of her friends were cheering on the playground that they were able to be maskless outside. I want that same celebration to take place inside the classroom.
