We’re looking for a full time housekeeper and cook who will do some errands, grocery shopping, meal prep, laundry and full housecleaning. Is it too much to ask her to also keep an eye on our 12 year old (6th grader) for about an hour or so after school on some days (she has sports most days). What about mild illness sick days? Our daughter is pretty self sufficient but I’d like to have her accountable to an adult when we aren’t home.
If your boss brought his/her kids in and told you to take care of them for a few hours, you would be livid as this is not a part of your job. If I were employed as a housekeeper, babysitting is not a part of my job and I would not care how self sufficient the kid is because I do not want to be a babysitter. Job creep. A 12 year old should be able to get her own snack, do her homework, without any supervision. If she isn't then you have failed as a parent.
It’s not job creep if the responsibilities to keep an eye on the 12 yr old is stated clearly at interview and in the contract.
