I used to love Randall but ever since they started the "i have mommy issues and poor me i was adopted by a loving family" i just can't with him. Every GD thing is an issue or a crisis of conscious for him. I don't see his family as racist but rather uninformed which is in its own way is bad. BUT he was loved and they did try, even by sending him to that school to be able to interact and bond with AA members of hte community.
I'm the PP who wrote about my change of heart. I think the racial storyline is a good one. I loved William and Randall's search for him and his mother. The interracial adoption story is huge. I think they totally underplayed Rebecca's lie and Randall's forgiveness of her. Don't know how he could do that so quickly. But he's such a sad sack. There's so little lightness or joy. I don't know if that's what the creators wanted or if that's a decision the actor made about how to play his character. He's so dour. When there is humor in his family, it's fantastic. (Door Number Beth!) But there's too little of it, or it's wrapped in some annoying "Super Dad" excess. Even his depression and anxiety could have been portrayed with more, I don't know, resilience or something. Both of his bio parents showed tremendous resilience after really devastating life experiences. Maybe we'll see that in the end. I hope so.
