Every GD thing is an issue or a crisis of conscious for him.
I don't see his family as racist but rather uninformed which is in its own way is bad. BUT he was loved and they did try, even by sending him to that school to be able to interact and bond with AA members of hte community.
I'm the PP who wrote about my change of heart. I think the racial storyline is a good one. I loved William and Randall's search for him and his mother. The interracial adoption story is huge. I think they totally underplayed Rebecca's lie and Randall's forgiveness of her. Don't know how he could do that so quickly.
But he's such a sad sack. There's so little lightness or joy. I don't know if that's what the creators wanted or if that's a decision the actor made about how to play his character. He's so dour. When there is humor in his family, it's fantastic. (Door Number Beth!) But there's too little of it, or it's wrapped in some annoying "Super Dad" excess. Even his depression and anxiety could have been portrayed with more, I don't know, resilience or something. Both of his bio parents showed tremendous resilience after really devastating life experiences. Maybe we'll see that in the end. I hope so.

Such a compelling character at first but now my response to him is invariably "oh great it's drama queen Randall, sucking all the oxygen out of the room as usual."

Always an issue with Randall. Exhausting.

I was in first grade overseas so didn’t watch it in school like my counterparts in the U.S. DH suggested the Challenger documentary on Netflix and it was so informative and heart wrenching at the same time.
I do remember the movie Space Camp and didn’t realize it was release 6 months after the Challenger explosion. In case you’re interested, you can watch the whole movie for free on YouTube and apparently Disney might reboot it.

I think Covid/ Mandy Moores real life pregnancy impacted some of the intended storylines over the last 2 years.
I love this show but I’m glad it’s wrapping up this year. Just hoping for an emotionally satisfying end to the Pearson story.
Agree. At least the show is ending on its own terms rather than dragging along until it's canceled, and the time frame for ending it was planned in advance. Now it's on them to create that satisfying ending as payoff for getting to end on their own terms.
