Hi there! Thanks to all who participate here, sharing their knowledge experiences. I have a question that involves my wife. Thanks in advance to any and all who reply and try to shed some light on our situation. My wife is 42 years old, and we have miscarried several times (although, the last time was a couple years ago). It has now been 11 weeks since her last period. At first, we had suspected that she is simply in menopause. She spotted once a few weeks back, but we're literally talking about barely two faint spots of pink, nothing more. Certainly nothing like her previous miscarriages, which involved lots and lots of red blood. But, she finally took a pregnancy test today (again, at 11 weeks), and it is positive. My wife has been saying for the last couple weeks that she's probably in menopause; and, at best, that it is a chemical pregnancy. But, some quick and dirty "research" on my part yielded a forum which said that, by definition, a chemical pregnancy is not one that lasts past six weeks or so. Any thoughts on what we're dealing with here? We've never come close to going 11 weeks without a period. Could it be that we were pregnant, and now the menopause has simply taken over? Or, would a pregnancy always have to be followed by at least one period, in order to "clean things out?" I suppose it could be that there is a whatever-you-call-it-at-this-point down there, but that there is no heartbeat. How long can one carry one of those before it would be finally "flushed out" or before a pregnancy test would finally show a negative result? Given my wife's schedule, she talked about going to see a nurse today, but possbily not being able to schedule an appointment with a doctor until late next week. Any insight for you in the meantime would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
