I was told I had a chemical pregnancy yesterday....hardest day of my life....
Just like the same reaction from myself that I would imagine a miscarriage would cause. My period started out lightly yesterday...just some spotting, not my normal heavy cycle, then today the bad cramps and heavy bleeding.....just hope the next start of a pregnancy isn't like this,I hope to have at least one more giggling face around my home.

I had a CP in March. My last cycle had ended on 2/2. Starting getting very tired and sore breasts mid to end february, and on a hunch took a pregnancy test mid-march. Test was positive, then I had spotting later that week but it was darker colored so I thought it may be normal. In talking with my midwife I noticed that I hadn't had any morning sickness yet so I stopped telling others I was expecting cause I felt like something was wrong. Started heavier bleeding (bit heavier than normal cycle) on 3/18, took another test and got two lines but one was very faint, bleeding continued until 3/24 which is longer than my cycles usually are. I did not have any cramping, but I took another ept and it was negative. It's now 5/3, and still no cycle. I think I may have O'd in mid April, and have had problems with irregular cycles in the past. I am extremely reluctant to take another test as I don't want to go through that emotional rollercoaster again but I don't know where I'm at in my cycle. Anyone's cycle late after a CP?

Hi!!! Im new here. I had a chemical pregnancy too, as what my OBGYN told me. I tested positive on HPT last March 1. Me and my hubby were so delighted!! It's been 3 years that we are waiting for a positive result. To confirm I repeated the test in the afternoon and came back negative. Im thinking it was still early. Since I am a preg test addict, I tested again the next mornong and it came out positive.
So I decided I should see my OB to really confirm if I am pregnant. Did a blood test and urine test. My next appointment was last March 11. He told me all the blood works are negative. So he did an Ultrasound and no baby sac has been found =(
At that moment I felt like I was crashed deep within. Im so confused cause I really thought this is it. Going home I was staring to nowhere.
My OB just told me to try and try. He give me a tablet to be taken for 5 days to induce my menses.
Im hoping that my next pregnancy will be ok.

I'm confused - why are you assuming this is due to menopause and that your wife isn't pregnant if she tested positive on an HPT? Going 11 weeks without a period, along with a positive pregnancy test indicates to me that your wife is in fact pregnant. I'm pretty sure there are women on this board who have conceived naturally at 42.

Unless I'm missing something here, I think congratulations are in order.

Hi there! Thanks to all who participate here, sharing their knowledge experiences. I have a question that involves my wife. Thanks in advance to any and all who reply and try to shed some light on our situation.

My wife is 42 years old, and we have miscarried several times (although, the last time was a couple years ago). It has now been 11 weeks since her last period. At first, we had suspected that she is simply in menopause. She spotted once a few weeks back, but we're literally talking about barely two faint spots of pink, nothing more. Certainly nothing like her previous miscarriages, which involved lots and lots of red blood.

But, she finally took a pregnancy test today (again, at 11 weeks), and it is positive. My wife has been saying for the last couple weeks that she's probably in menopause; and, at best, that it is a chemical pregnancy. But, some quick and dirty "research" on my part yielded a forum which said that, by definition, a chemical pregnancy is not one that lasts past six weeks or so.

Any thoughts on what we're dealing with here? We've never come close to going 11 weeks without a period. Could it be that we were pregnant, and now the menopause has simply taken over? Or, would a pregnancy always have to be followed by at least one period, in order to "clean things out?" I suppose it could be that there is a whatever-you-call-it-at-this-point down there, but that there is no heartbeat. How long can one carry one of those before it would be finally "flushed out" or before a pregnancy test would finally show a negative result?

Given my wife's schedule, she talked about going to see a nurse today, but possbily not being able to schedule an appointment with a doctor until late next week. Any insight for you in the meantime would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Unfortunately, as we were on vacation I was not charting properly and so have no idea when I ovulated. But I'm now on CD34 on what is normally a 28-30 day cycle, and I've had a bunch of pregnancy-specific symtpoms but I keep getting negatives. I've seen an EXTREMELY tiny amount of spotting (like, you kind of have to squint to see that little bit of pinkish brown) and other than that, nothing. Has anyone else seen/heard/experienced anything like this? It's REALLY hard to find information on what's normal in a post-chemical pregnancy cycle. I'd be really grateful for some insight here.
Thanks so much!

This is the OP of this thread. I've had two and both cycles afterwards were different. With the first, I had an anovulatory cycle and the following cycle was a week or so late. After the most recent one, I ovulated on my usual cycle day.

I had a "chemical pregnancy" 3yrs ago. I figured since I have a "tilted uterus" this explained why we were having such difficulty TTC. I got pregnant again only to experience ANOTHER "chemical pregnancy" -- after much research I learned that in my case the low progesterone is the culprit and therefore I am on a combo of vitamin B6, baby asprin and progesterone. I did prometrium for both of the previous pregnancies and I don't want to go that route again. I am using as many natural methods as possible and lots of prayer because after all it's up to God

I also had a chemical preg a few days ago. I had really heavy cramping and a late period so I took a hpt which was neg so I went to urgent care and the urine test came up positive. I was happy but scared my daughter is 17!then 4 days later it was over b4 it even started. I'm really scared to try again because afraid it may happen again.

I did not read through the streams and streams of emails on this thread, but we had the same thing happen this month. Started taking pregnancy tests at 11 DPO and they were positive, but on 15 DPO the line looked lighter instead of darker (with my baby girl, they kept getting darker). Had my HCG tested at OB/Gyn's office 12 DPO (Thursday), but did not get results until 16 DPO (Monday -- at this point my period was 3 days late). Came back at 16. Also had an HCG test that morning at Fertility doc's office and got results back same day later in the afternoon --- came back at 9 and was told it was a chemical pregnancy in light of declining numbers. Did not have any bleeding until I was 6 days late for my period, but at least was expecting it in light of delining HCG's. So, for me at least, if I were not getting HCG's measured, I would have assumed I was pregnant AND missed my period for almost a week (I am ALWAYS 28 days -- never late). I say this because of all the comments that indicate a chemical resolves itself so quickly that "most people do not know they are pregnant." Not at all my case, which also means it felt very much like a miscarriage and I was very sad, so just some advice to those out there who have friends experiencing this -- be very sensitive because it is a hard thing to go through. We are going to try again this month and see what happens -- last month was our first month trying so we thought we were very blessed to get pregnant so fast. I am 38, taking a half dosage of Clomid each night, but no trigger shot or IUI (just monitored sonos and timed intercourse). Have a 19 month old baby girl that we conceived after 6-7 months of trying just through sonos and timed intercourse (no Clomid). Best wishes to all of you that you get that baby God has in mind especially for you. It WILL happen and when it does, all of this anticipation and fear and worry and disappointment will be so worth it. You will look at that baby and think "I wouldn't have things any other way -- YOU are exactly who God meant for me and I love you more than I ever thought possible." I still think that every day when I look at my sweet baby girl.

It's happened to us twice and it's so cruel to get that bfp only tone disappointed a few days later.

PP, did you try another pregnancy test? When I had my hCG checked the day after the heavy bleeding, it was less than 5.
