I grew up upper middle class in a nyc suburb and did not have diamond studs until DH got them for me for an a gift when I was about 35. My parents would not have bought diamonds for me (pearls, yes, if I had wanted them which I never have, haha o the culture clash on that, although think it is also age related not just geography), and I do not buy myself expensive jewelry. I think diamond studs or the Burberry trench are special gift ideas for a new grad who will be in a professional setting. [/quote]
