Thank you.  This does make sense.  Is your explanation true for all ECNL teams with large rosters?  Do all ECNL teams have the situation where those that don't suit up for the ECNL game gets to play in some other game?  I'm thinking what if your kid was on a team with 22 kids and there wasn't a 2nd game?  The dress 18 and 4 are ineligible each week.  What are your thoughts on this type of situation?[/quote]

At the HS age group, most teams tend to carry more because kids are busier doing other things... especially when players on a team might be from MD, DC, or private schools and HS seasons vary.  You assume 4 are "ineligible" to roster 18, but there may be a high likelihood of 4 of 22 unavailable due to other commitments or injuries.  My daughter's team only rostered 16 last year for U16 age group and didn't have enough kids to play some weekends by the end of the spring... so there's also that reason behind a "large" roster for HS age kids.
