We now have 21 (with 3 dual rostered with next team down) on the roster, but 5 are injured. I like 18 permanent with ability to have part time or developmental players that typically play on other teams but can play up on ECNL when needed. Anything over low 20s is a bit silly however. The league could address this by limiting roster sizes. Either way, only 18 can be rostered for a match.

Thank you. This does make sense. Is your explanation true for all ECNL teams with large rosters? Do all ECNL teams have the situation where those that don't suit up for the ECNL game gets to play in some other game? I'm thinking what if your kid was on a team with 22 kids and there wasn't a 2nd game? The dress 18 and 4 are ineligible each week. What are your thoughts on this type of situation?


At the HS age group, most teams tend to carry more because kids are busier doing other things... especially when players on a team might be from MD, DC, or private schools and HS seasons vary. You assume 4 are "ineligible" to roster 18, but there may be a high likelihood of 4 of 22 unavailable due to other commitments or injuries. My daughter's team only rostered 16 last year for U16 age group and didn't have enough kids to play some weekends by the end of the spring... so there's also that reason behind a "large" roster for HS age kids.

I think player movement is tracked all the time by coaches, clubs. college recruiting coordinators. I dont think its a stalking issue at all. The same parent that thinks its a privacy issue would be the first to brag and put it out everywhere if their DC was being tracked by a high level college team.

This too. I haven't seen the crazy thread about pre-season scrimmages yet... but the composite team did beat VDA 05 ECNL pretty easily...


That was mostly ECNL starters, not composite, that beat VDA 7-1


not the week before when they beat them 3-1...


So VDA ECNL lost to both McLean ECNL team and McLean composite team?


So did McLean 03/04 really lose 6-0 to VDA ?

PP said that McLean fielded 05 team against 03/04 VDA team.


So here’s reality:

Two weekends ago, a combined group of McLean 05/04/03s played VDA 04/03 and lost 5-1.

Last weekend McLean 04/03 played VDA 04/03 and lost 6-0(?).

Clearly, If 35+ parents with plenty of options that are within 45 minutes are willing to join McLean then their most be value in it for them. I am not a McLean parent but do know Nadir and some of the McLean and MSI parents. This was a great idea.

Do you memorize rosters every year? How would you possibly know who is new or not?

I think this set up is much better than being number 22 and not play or dress or number 18 and wear a uniform and go to game to sit. Some parents only care about the uniform. Many teams around the country do Academy style with a large roster. This is not for everyone though because you do have to defend your spot and for some just being on the team is enough. Those bench parents seem worse than the parents of the stars. I do think most teams around here allow a player with not a lot of minutes to play on the club second team. You have to be open to that if you want your child to develop You would have to ask your club. I am not from around here originally and find the parents here really aggressive and mean with the conduct. This is something that has bothered spouse and I.

Why do you say that? Suit yourself but if the goal is college play...first look at the type of programs where the lower level ecnl players end up playing and examine those college rosters. You will find that for every ecnl player at that college level, there is another player from that took a different approach and path. So be informed before your player makes a choice. Ecnl us fine but many of the lower level players end up on the same rosters with players from other leagues.

Large clubs around the country do this. Who hates this? Bench players who get nervous about the composite and at a smaller
club with out a huge pool they wouldn’t have to think of this. If someone doesn’t like this and some do not then there are so many clubs. Hope this was helpful.
