The above post should pinned because it’s the bottom line. I admire PP for their restraint given the elephant in the room (cough). In the past week, there was a shooting at Nats stadium, several shootings in SE where a one small child was killed and then last night at 14th street by one if DC’s most popular restaurants. And that’s what I know of the top of my head. Stay safe everyone. And hug your loved one tights.
Is the increasing push for criminal justice reform to less punitive and morerestorative justice focused and with with reduced sentences (Youth rehab act, Racine pushing not to sentence teens as adults, etc), that is also product of amorphous equity goals (mainly by liberals), making the city less safe? I understand the disparate impact statistics in crime are so bad and there has been egregious police brutality in the past. However, there has also been a massive anti-police sentiment in the last few years and instructions to reduce disparate impact. The city council seems to have pushed polices where teens know they get a slap on the wrist and go back on the streets. Is anyone worried it will get a lot worse and then we will clamp down again on crime as was done in the 90’s? What does all this tell us? First, guns are bad. Second we need to also respect the law.
