another poster from a poor family with a lot of kids. Why is that?
I come from a family with a lot of children. All from the same parents. Catholic. My dad had a Master's in Accounting. Awesome salary for the times. Then he had a heart attack at age 39. The company kept him employed for 2 years afterwards, while he was recovering. He fully recovered, and his company made it clear that although he could stay employed with them, he would no longer advance in the company. So he decided to get a job at another company. Which he did. And they went bankrupt. No more job. My mom went to work, and through her hard work, she kept us in our home and always fed. Occasionally we had to get a box from the food pantry. I honestly don't know if we got any other assistance. No more "nice" clothes. But we still had 2 cars, a tv, and all the other "things" that "poor" people "shouldn't" have according to posters on this board. My dad worked odd jobs here and there. No one wanted to hire a middle aged man. Too much "experience". It took years, but eventually my dad found a good job, my mom got promoted at her sales job, etc, etc. We were able to afford nice things again. I went on to college... Had my family had less children, my dad's loss of a job would still have had a huge impact on the family. The number of children, although not completley relevant, had nothing to do with his work ethic or job status. Don't be so judgemental. Bad things happen to good people all the time.
