The lost deposit is a legit issue to get resolved. Unfortunately, it sounds like you are going to have to do a little more work for that one. I was also caught up in that glitch and eventually it was straitened out. We were also told this period of light practice will be price adjusted. I know it's hard to trust given the experience lately, but we did get quite a fair refund for the spring, so I think it will be okay. It also sounds as if this will be very short term (probably just this week). I am quite sure attendance IS taken into consideration for group placement. Swimming once per week will not get a kid invited to advanced juniors or other advanced groups, that is true. I am also quite sure those attending once per week are not aiming for advanced groups. However, it is RMSC policy that you get to keep your spot with once per week in that group. If you are that opposed to the policy, you are welcome to look for another club. If you could find the financials/budget for the club, you may be surprised what they are paying for. Since I can't find it quickly, I won't pretend I know, but I am willing to believe it covers much more than coaching. Across the groups I have heard about, in is not uncommon to get about half of their minimum practice time. We are dealing with extreme circumstances. They have kids and coaches in as early as 4:30 am every day and as late as 9 pm to get as much in as possible. The feeling in my house certainly is that something is better than nothing, and realizing that we could very likely see a complete pause at another point of this pandemic, we'll take what we can get.
It's good to hear you got the money straightened out. We went back and forth for weeks and gave up. Swim said I had to contact county who said I had to contact swim, and repeat. The money is a rec department issue, not RMSC as the rec department handles registration and finances. RMSC doesn't pay for the pool time or life guards. That is subsidized by the county, which is how in the past (before the price changes) they were able to keep rates much lower. They raised the prices to pay the coaches more after losing some coaches to private teams paying more. We'd support the price increases if we got more coaches, which was one of the multiple justification of the increase, but that hasn't happened. City of Rockville subsidizes the program for the Rockville group, which is why their prices are even lower than KSAC, Germantown, Olney and MLK. Unfortunately most of the other swim teams are not taking new members. Some of the indoor pools that they rent aren't being rented out to outsiders right now. We are at less than 1/4 our practice time. 1/2 is understandable. It would be nice if the county opened up to other teams.
