25% CAPACITY
Somewhere in the execution/communication County Rec believed their aquatic centers were to be held to 25 people, this was not the intention and has now been clarified.

Well, if your child is that advanced, why don't you move to a different club, find a private facility, or move to a different part of the country.
That's more than we are getting. All kids should get the same amount. Regular kids cannot ever catch up or move ahead as they swim much less. Private groups are 2-4 times the cost. many of us cannot afford that.
Any suggestions on affordable groups swimming a few times a week?
"Fair" is not 50 minutes a week for some groups and 2.25 hours for others. The prices are not that different.
I have two swimmers, one that is competitive and the other isn’t. Every Advanced and NDG/Select/NTG had the same amount of access to the pool during the early years of training. Yes, your child can move forward with the amount of practice time provided. If my advanced swimmer started out training 5-6 times per week, he would’ve burned out.
The reduced amount of time isn’t a RMSC issue, it’s a county one as a result of a pandemic. Start writing emails to the county council members if you would like more pool time or... find a cure to covid.
The cure for covid is people stop traveling, eating out and socializing but that's not going to happen.
The advanced group swim 1-2 times a week more in juniors than the regular. Mine gladly will swim 5-6 days a week and at times we've supplemented elsewhere to get the practices in. Yours may not do well with more but some of our kids do better and enjoy more.
How old is your child? What swim group is s/he in?
Juniors. We have yet to hear the new plan from RMSC. Any suggestions on where else to go?
You should start your own club. You clearly have superior knowledge about everything.
We get one day a week for 60 minutes. Do you think that's reasonable?
I think that you see the universe through the eyes of only your nine year old who did not make advanced juniors, you reject information we have provided to you about how this club works and why they have do things the way they do things in multiple exchanges. You want more for your kid for less money. I believe you have indicated that you want: (1) all kids to be able to come to more practices (2) the decision about who makes advanced groups to have nothing to do with speed because you don't care about competitions but only practice attendance; (3) attendance at every practice made available to a certain group of kids to be mandatory; (4) lanes to have fewer kids in them; (5) the cost to be cheaper then RMSC; (6) no changes be made to the schedule to reflect evolving health regulations without consultation with 100s of participants' parents; (6) the schedule to be developed in light of evolving health department restrictions to serve a mystery number of swimmers (because you don't want to have to pay a deposit to indicate you want to swim during a pandemic). I think you should develop a business plan and figure out how this would work? Would you have kids of all abilities just sign up for the number of practices they want to attend and then have coaches deal with disparate speeds and kids lapping each other at any given practice? How much would you pay for lane space, how much would you pay your coaches, therefore how much would you charge "per practice." Go through this exercise and see if you can create a club to fit your preferences.
We paid the deposit and lost it in the system. There was a glitch and we were supposed to be reimbursed and it wasn't and then we were told to take it up with the county. After much back and forth we were told by several different people the responsibility was on someone else and never go that money back. Great if you got your deposit back but we never did and paid full price for the session.
We are getting one day a week. At that point they might as well put the sessions on hold if its such a health issue.
Attendance should be considered. If there are 4 sessions, one child swims only 1 session a week, those kids should get cut from the team, especially when others would love their spot and are willing to swim 4 days a week or we need to reduce swimmer numbers because of covid.
RMSC isn't paying for the pool or lifeguard costs. They are only paying for the coaches. We generally have 2-3 coaches per 40-60 kids depending on who shows up.
I'm okay with kids who swim once a week and are still on the team. RMSC expects that and uses that to calculate how many kids they can take. This fall I saw a handful of kids coming once a week to my child's group and I assume it was because they have other sports and the times were not as flexible as they were in the past. No one knew the times before they signed up. It's completely understandable.
In times of covid, even better if kids only come sporadically anyway. For them and everyone else. I believe RMSC took every swimmer who wanted to sign up for this fall. I mean they didn't add any new kids with tryouts but I don't think anyone was pushed off the team for space reasons.
My child's coach is doing a great job at KSAC.

Regardless, if they phase back using the EO currently in place, it’s important to have it applied appropriately to Rec swim facilities. So, thanks to all that helped on that front.

They just announced it going back to the regular schedule. We aren't going to go back on lock down. If we were, they would have done it already.

Anonymous wrote:The lost deposit is a legit issue to get resolved. Unfortunately, it sounds like you are going to have to do a little more work for that one. I was also caught up in that glitch and eventually it was straitened out.
We were also told this period of light practice will be price adjusted. I know it's hard to trust given the experience lately, but we did get quite a fair refund for the spring, so I think it will be okay. It also sounds as if this will be very short term (probably just this week).
I am quite sure attendance IS taken into consideration for group placement. Swimming once per week will not get a kid invited to advanced juniors or other advanced groups, that is true. I am also quite sure those attending once per week are not aiming for advanced groups. However, it is RMSC policy that you get to keep your spot with once per week in that group. If you are that opposed to the policy, you are welcome to look for another club.
If you could find the financials/budget for the club, you may be surprised what they are paying for. Since I can't find it quickly, I won't pretend I know, but I am willing to believe it covers much more than coaching.
Across the groups I have heard about, in is not uncommon to get about half of their minimum practice time. We are dealing with extreme circumstances. They have kids and coaches in as early as 4:30 am every day and as late as 9 pm to get as much in as possible. The feeling in my house certainly is that something is better than nothing, and realizing that we could very likely see a complete pause at another point of this pandemic, we'll take what we can get.
