Anyhow, I played soccer for 40 yrs, but yeah, I know nothing. My point is that if a kid plays year round travel already in a structured league, they need some free play time. I did it when I was a kid. Messi did it. Maradona did it. Pete did it. But, hey let’s listen to this clown who just wants to take your money. It's cold AF during futsal season, and indoor Ys are generally taken up with basketball and other stuff. Where do you recommend that kids do this "free play futsal" you are advocating for? And are you volunteering to organize kids who want to play there all at the same time? If so, great. Let us know what court and when. It ain't that cold (anymore, that's to climate change - joke). Heck, half the elite teams around here practice outdoor in Feb. Also, knew a guy that set up a pick up league at the local YMCA. It worked nicely. Lots of latino kids came to play as they could afford it. But, yes do what you need to do to help your kid. I'd honestly like to see a setup as follows if it has to be somewhat organized: three sessions a week. 2 practices with coaching focused on individual foot skills mostly (vs. team concepts and trying to "win" a game) and then supervised (coaches) pick up games rotating players in and out. No set teams week to week, just times for the right amount of players to show up to get their hour or two of play in. Creativity and confidence emphasized vs. the coach getting a win or these pay to play tournaments, for a meaningless trophy, etc. Our Club resumes 3-night per week for (every team in the Club) practices mid-January every winter. My kids have been out there in 28 Degrees, dark, at 9pm at night. It doesn't bother them. In fact, they get hot if they have too many under armour gear/layers on. What club, if you don't mind me asking?
Yeah, me too. Would be interested if nearby enough.
