Italy is doing so well now because they had the highest death rate per capita in the world from covid. Not sure why you would be pointing to them as an exemplar unless you want us to unleash the virus on all the nursing homes or something similar.
Nope. There are other countries with similar stats to Italy who are also doing well, who never had Italy's high death rates. These are the stats we need to have NOW to be able to reopen. We need to be: 1) testing a LOT of people. 2) have a 2% positivity rate 3) have 20 new cases per million per day or less Italy is doing it. Other countries that didn't have Italy's experience are doing it. Some of our states are doing it. Maryland is NOT doing it.
20 new cases per million? I believe you mean 100,000. We are testing a lot of people in MD, that isn’t an issue. We also have extremely quick turnaround time for test results, among the most rapid of all the states. Everyone wants to see the stats continue to get better, as they have been doing for the past two months. Some people just can’t stop looking for bad news when surrounded by pretty good news. Perhaps you would be happier living in the south where you could actually have a basis for your complaints.
NP here, but nope -- 20 new cases per million should be the target. See the map here to see all the countries in Europe that have hit this target: https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/new-covid-cases-per-million
Did you look at the graphic yourself. It says the main reason these countries have low numbers is limited testing. How did you miss that?
No, it says "The number of confirmed cases is lower than the number of total cases. The main reason for this is limited testing." Obviously not every case is confirmed by testing, but it doesn't say that the differences between Europe and the US are based on limited testing. You can also look here to see the tests by population. Hard to fully account for the difference in cases based just on testing differences: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/
