I'm starting 16:8 this week. I am sure this has been asked before, so forgive me if this is a repeat question, but if I have coffee with a little almond milk in the AM, is that cheating on IF? I plan to do a 12-8pm window, but with quarantine and working with kids at home, i need my coffee in the morning!
If you were a super strict adherent who was doing it to lose a lot of weight it probably would be but I do it too. I’m not eating until 11-noon and I’m not doing it to lose weight so I am fine with it. Depends how strict you want to be probably. For me, eating breakfast makes me hungrier throughout the day and I snack more so that’s why I decided to try IF. Drinking coffee with milk doesn’t do that so it’s okay for me personally.
ok thanks. I am not doing this to lose a lot of weight. 5lbs would be nice though, but i just want to get into the habit of eating during certain hours of the day and eliminating any eating after 8pm and this seems like a good way to tackle that. but i can't give up a morning coffee!
Coffee with a little milk of whatever type is not cheating if you keep it under 30ish calories. I don’t recall what the actual number of calories is, but that’s the neighborhood. I researched this when I was getting headaches in the morning without my usual caffeine. Of course these rules are somewhat arbitrary, but in as far as there are real IF “experts,” the general consensus is that a splash of milk in coffee in the morning doesn’t truly break the fast. I put a TBSP of 2% milk in mine, which is well within the limit.
