No - a clean fast includes black coffee, black tea (bitter profile, tea leaves only) and plain water (flat or sparkling - no flavor).

If you were a super strict adherent who was doing it to lose a lot of weight it probably would be but I do it too. I’m not eating until 11-noon and I’m not doing it to lose weight so I am fine with it. Depends how strict you want to be probably. For me, eating breakfast makes me hungrier throughout the day and I snack more so that’s why I decided to try IF. Drinking coffee with milk doesn’t do that so it’s okay for me personally.
ok thanks. I am not doing this to lose a lot of weight. 5lbs would be nice though, but i just want to get into the habit of eating during certain hours of the day and eliminating any eating after 8pm and this seems like a good way to tackle that. but i can't give up a morning coffee!

FWIW, I find that I'm hungrier if I go back and forth between IF and normal eating (12:12 or less). When I don't do IF, I find myself more hungry throughout the day, and it takes me a few days back on IF before the hunger goes away and it feels natural again. I've found a balance where on weekends I can still do a 14 hour fast like 10pm - 12pm if I'm out late and have a snack, or 8pm - 10am if we go out for brunch, and I don't feel like I've fallen off the wagon. It's strange what a difference a few hours can make!

IF has become a life change for me. I have permanently eliminated breakfast. On special occasions, I would eat it breakfast. For example, on Sunday mornings when the whole family as bacon and eggs for breakfast. This does not get me off my regiment if it is just for a day.
I realized that when I do IF to lose weight and then get back to eating breakfast more than a couple of days a week, I get really hungry if I try to skip breakfast again.
So 17:9 is just a way of life for me now. Close shop at 8:00pm , lunch anytime after 11:00 am. It's now second nature to me.
