Look: Trump is just a symptom, he isn’t the cause of the way America is today. I grew up in a small town in the Midwest, and have lots of family and old friends who still live there. These people are angry, angry, angry. And they should be. Their communities are in decline, they can’t afford healthcare, can’t afford to send their kids to college or help them get “launched”, they are often working low paying jobs, and a great number of their kids have succumbed to drugs. For whatever reason, they are directing their anger at what they see as “urban elites” - which means “me”- whether I agree or not..  Somehow it seems to give them hope to hear things like “we can say Merry Christmas again” “we’re the real Americans” “haha liberal tears” etc. All while they hand me a giant tax cut and my 401k balance climbs- and effectively give my kids more and more and more- all while they can’t even afford to take their kids to the doctor. I don’t get it, but it isn’t going to be ending anytime soon whether Trump is elected or not. There isn’t anything to do about this (other than voting, and efforts to donate or GOTV)- but that is all temporary/short term at best. I have no idea how all of this will play out- but this division will not be improving anytime soon, one way or another.

It is depressing when you think about it, but there is really no sense worrying about things I can’t control. I just focus on my family and community- things I actually have some level of control over- and try hard to muster up quiet patience and understanding for the rest. It will be interesting to see how this all turns out in 20,30,40 years. [/quote]
