"to no ones surprise" ??? really
If you read the posters entire post, I believe this poster means they have been a good team for awhile. Both of these current U12 teams have been 1st or 2nd the last four seasons of All Stars.
Wasn't McLean also the #1 seed going into Sunday's finals?
Ok, enough, it is a fun rec tournament. Lets stop with talking about "seeding". These are not established teams like travel and how kids are selected will vary across the clubs. Enjoy it for what it is if your kid plays rec.
Wow you travel parents certainly seem testy. No need to be dismissive. Why so defensive?
Not defensive at all, just putting some perspective on the tournament. 1. The nature of player selection varies across the clubs. Larger rec programs may ask for each rec team to provide one or two players. How those players are selected per team may also vary but it is always safe to assume the coaches kid will be one of them. Some clubs may offer an open tryout and some clubs are small enough that essentially most of the rec team may participate. 2. No single age group is similarly represented from year to year as is the nature of rec soccer. Kids come and go and keeping a team together year after year can prove to be very difficult into the travel age years. 3. The teams general do not get to practice together and if they do it is only a couple of times before the tournament. 4. The tournament is intended to be a reward for the best players in the rec program and to offer them the opportunity to play external competition and to enjoy a tournament setting that they otherwise would not experience in rec other than the occasional end of season jubilee if the club offers one. For all of these reason, actual "seeding" is extremely difficult and the best effort to try and ensure a competitive balance is hard. So with all that said, yes, don't give the seeding a second thought.
