Your declaration that your idle insult is a "legitimate question" does not make it so. Are you going to the expectant mothers thread and asking the women there "why don't you just adopt?" People who can have children without assistance never have to justify their decisions. But people who need the help of assisted reproductive technology do. Why is that?

I have also never heard of anyone in the "why don't you adopt" crowd who mentions that they are also an adoptive parent themselves. That's because people who really HAVE adopted are by and large sensitive and loving, understand that the process is not like "baby-shopping," and tend not to ask stupid questions. They love their children but they realize that the adoption path may not be for everyone, even though it is a beautiful way to build a family.

There are, indeed, many children in the world who need homes. It should not be the "job" of the infertile to take care of all of them; all of us have a role to play. So, PP...how many children have you adopted?[/quote]
