I was all excited about the model 3 launch and was looking into booking it(even though the wait is 1.5 years maybe). Anyways, a co worker who is a hard core Trump supporter comes up to me and says that Tesla cars and electrics are a scam. I dont understand why Republicans hate electric cars. Here are the facts. 1) Electric cars are faster than gasoline cars (Reseach ludicrous mode in model S) 2) We are not dependent on foreign oil 3) They are manufactured in Freemont CA, so jobs! 4) The batteries are made in NV so more jobs 5) The tax credits given for electric cars are nothing compared to the tax reliefs given to Oil companies. 6) Most people plug their car into the super charger for 15 mins and get about ~60 to 70% range(Almost like filling gas at a gas station) 7) You plug in your car at home and wake up every day to 200 miles plus of range. 8) They dont pollute and are smooth and fun to drive. It boggles my mind when I hear another American not supporting this concept.
I am not sure that it's republicans who hate electric cars. I'm a republican and I think electric cars are a great idea. I'm an electrical engineer by training and while playing with hobby grade RC cars back in the 90s always wondered when the day would come for full size cars to go full electric. The Prius, while not a full electric car, was a veritable engineering marvel for its time and I believe demonstrated the feasibility for a battery pack driving electric motors to fully power a vehicle. Tesla as we know took the concept to the next level with the roadster, and then brought it to mass appeal with the Model S sedan. I grew up as a car enthusiast in the 90s and this has affected me greatly in my preference for gasoline engine cars. I prefer the sound, the gears, the mechanical complexity, and etc. It's an irrational preference, I agree, so I don't have a rational basis for this preference. Gasoline engines have gotten more efficient and cleaner as they've evolved, and unlike some of my fellow car enthusiasts, I don't mind all of the emissions and efficiency regulations that have been put in place - engine choices have flourished despite of these additional constraints and I salute the collective ingenuity of the engineers that bring these magnificent creations into existence. I'm sure electric cars are just fine, and it's unmistakably where the automobile world is going. I applaud the progress, just let the archaic portion of my mind hang on a little longer to the old time sensations of driving a car where thousands of little explosions take place every minute.
