OP, I travel very frequently, and I look down on people who don't travel very often and must have "the best" when they do. A $1,000 room is in no way, shape, or form worth it. A fool and her money are soon parted. There's a sucker born every minute. She knows the cost of everything and the value of nothing. These are all phrases that apply to you.
Nice try. We travel often, just with the kids. I decided to go with the flow. I will do anything birthday girl chooses. Everyone seems so hyper focused on the $1000 number. What if it were 300 vs a crummy 50 motel? In my original post, I wanted to pay more and upgrade everyone, not just myself. The whole weekend is going to cost like 1-2k. I know not everyone can just throw money around. For us, 2k, 5k, it is all the same.
People were fixated on your original number because it very much sounded like people were talking about a $300/night room and that just wasn't good enough for you because you just had to have the $1000/night room. $50 room vs. $300 room is a lot different in a lot of ways. At the end of the day, the room is just the place where you sleep. I'd personally rather sleep on the $300/night bed than the $50/night bed, but I have yet to ever see a bed that would be worth the $700 markup you're talking about. People were understanding about not wanting to share a room. People were also understanding about not wanting to stay in a a crappy motel. Because you would not give examples of where you were actually considering going, most people were left to wonder either what was so special about the $1000 room or what kind of snob you were or both.
