Nice try. We travel often, just with the kids.
I decided to go with the flow. I will do anything birthday girl chooses.
Everyone seems so hyper focused on the $1000 number. What if it were 300 vs a crummy 50 motel?
In my original post, I wanted to pay more and upgrade everyone, not just myself. The whole weekend is going to cost like 1-2k. I know not everyone can just throw money around. For us, 2k, 5k, it is all the same.
People were fixated on your original number because it very much sounded like people were talking about a $300/night room and that just wasn't good enough for you because you just had to have the $1000/night room. $50 room vs. $300 room is a lot different in a lot of ways. At the end of the day, the room is just the place where you sleep. I'd personally rather sleep on the $300/night bed than the $50/night bed, but I have yet to ever see a bed that would be worth the $700 markup you're talking about.
People were understanding about not wanting to share a room. People were also understanding about not wanting to stay in a a crappy motel. Because you would not give examples of where you were actually considering going, most people were left to wonder either what was so special about the $1000 room or what kind of snob you were or both.
Trying to stay anonymous. Let’s say we were going to Costa Rica. I want to stay at four seasons and others want to stay at a place with no service and no amenities.
This is ridiculous. It's a girls' weekend with people of all different incomes and budgets. You cannot expect to stay at the Four Seasons! That doesn't mean you have to stay at a crappy motel. It is not an all or nothing thing. So, for $300/night, you get no services and no amenities? In Costa Rica? Somehow I doubt that.
It isn’t Costa Rica. I said I was trying to be anonymous.

I would 100% treat my friend. Yes, I’m in a position to spend a few grand for a gf getaway.
I don’t really want to pay for girls I don’t know at all.
But OP, you weren't going to upgrade everyone. You said you "don't really want to pay for girls I don't know at all."

Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:So when you say squeeze into a 3 star hotel do you mean sharing rooms?
To me that would be worse. I would rather have my own room, or share with one other in a $300 night hotel than cram 4 or more to a room in a $1K hotel,
How many people are we talking about and what city are you going to? Maybe we can help you think og a way to stay somewhere nice without breaking the bank.
They want to share rooms and beds. I did that when I was in college only. There will be 5-8 girls going. They are assuming 3-4 ppl per room. At bare minimum, I would want my own bed. I’m 40, not 20.
The more I type, the more I am leaning towards not going.
Anonymous wrote:OP- the comment of "may not want to do as many spa appointments" is hilarious.
It's a trip to celebrate a friends b-day...not their honeymoons! I splurge when going out of town with my husband and will choose expensive dinners and such but don't see the point on a girls trip. Plus i wouldn't be cool with him going on ultra-luxe boys weekends so I wouldn't say yes to a major "splurge" girls weekend. I understand not wanting to eat at KFC when you're on vacation, but you guys can find awesome not super-pricey food in most locations.
Could you share where this trip is taking place?
