OP- the comment of "may not want to do as many spa appointments" is hilarious. It's a trip to celebrate a friends b-day...not their honeymoons! I splurge when going out of town with my husband and will choose expensive dinners and such but don't see the point on a girls trip. Plus i wouldn't be cool with him going on ultra-luxe boys weekends so I wouldn't say yes to a major "splurge" girls weekend. I understand not wanting to eat at KFC when you're on vacation, but you guys can find awesome not super-pricey food in most locations. Could you share where this trip is taking place?
I am not OP, but my wife takes a mom's weekend every year with 3 other moms that she is close with (actually, all four of the families are close). They get an air bnb, rent a house, or stay in a hotel; everyone has their own room. And they do exactly this--go to nice dinners, wine tastings, spa appointments, and shopping. Nothing wrong with splurging at all on these trips.
