Not sure why everyone is bagging on the OP -- I agree it's something that I'd want. And I say this as someone who has all the marks of accomplishment important on the east coast -- Wharton undergrad; top law school; NYC biglaw; then we moved to DC for a better family life; DC biglaw; MoCo; top school district; investments etc. And I honestly dream about moving back to my non competitive rural NJ (not north jersey which is NYC competitive) suburb and starting a business -- not a law practice but like opening a Dunkin -- and living off that income + supplementing with our investments which we wouldn't need to bc it's just not that costly.
The difference is YOU want to start a business, either by yourself, your partner, or whomever. OP is talking about her niece like she actually accomplished something by marrying a man who happens to have rich parents.
+1. PP you're clearly an accomplished person, and you THINK you'd want what OP is describing. Yet without even realizing it when you describe how you'd go about it, you talk about starting YOUR own business and living off YOUR investments in your hometown. That's way different than marrying someone so that you can live off not even his business, but his father's business/investments.
