Personality differences. I've been to the Atlantis in Dubai and it is not my scene but I can easily see why young children would have a great time and the parents are happy because the kids are happy. Martha's Vineyard / Nantucket / Maine / Cape Cod is my natural fit. Older kids always have a great time swimming and in the ponds and cycling and taking the ferries and having local ice cream and seafood. I wouldn't say no to an Atlantis vacation but it's not high on my list and I would always go for a northeastern summer trip over Atlantis in the summer, and there are other parts of the Bahamas and Caribbean I'd prefer for the winter months. Last but not least, I am not judgmental. Go to the place that makes you happy.
Agree with this. I wouldn't object to going to Atlantis for spring break some year (although we usually go skiing), but we spend the summer on the Cape so definitely prefer Cape/Nantucket/MV for summer. My kids feel the same way - they have grown up spending summers on the Cape. They are happy to go all sorts of places though - skiing, beaches, US cities, international cities. It doesn't seem like it has to be binary. Go to Atlantis, to MV, to Vail and to Paris.
