Born and raised in the Midwest. The average Midwesterner doesn't care about or even know of Northwestern. If they're a couch potato football viewer they know Northwestern has a mediocre football team. Outside of that, very little name rec let alone prestige to the average Midwest resident. Most Midwest folks might hold their own state's flagship in high regard but they don't give a flying f*** about Northwestern (or UChicago).[/quote]

I'll bite. Harvard registers on pretty much anyone's radar. After that, most folks considering college look at their state schools. Harvard could fill a class based on top Midwestern students who attend their flagship uni based on cost and proximity. My cousins in VA got into Duke/Princeton, but both ended up at UVA as that is what the budget permitted.[/quote]
