Ex ANCer here, one of the early birds with several other once foundational families that were critical in joining with the Hatmakers and Pruets to launch ANC. The thing to keep in mind is that a lot of people felt very betrayed by the Hatmakers (and the Pruets) when it eventually became really evident that Jen was all about Jen and that her dreams of stardom and fame were consuming the oxygen of that little church. And that this was the whole point all along. Another if Jen’s grifts. Many dear and sweet people really did buy into the mission of the original church, a Christian church preaching a living Gospel to those in the margins of a city we all loved. Here he out. We were duped. All of us. Now, every single one of those foundational families no longer go there. Not one. Even the die hards ride of dies with Jen, apart from the Pruets. Heck, no Hatmaker even goes there anymore. It’s just Tray with an A and that weird suck up they with the dumb hats and turquoise jewelry the Hatmakers hired from Joel Osteen and a dwindling skeleton crew. Jason Morriss tried to tie himself to the Hatmaker star. He thought he’d become famous and relevant or something. Be with the cool kids. Get book deals. Talk about a terrible terrible misscalculation. ANC is a sad shell of what it once was, a sad cautionary tale of something that was once beautiful but became corroded by legit real corruption* pride and arrogance. *If anyone even cared anymore read about how the elders did the church were as surprised by Jen’s October announcement as everyone else reading about it online despite the leaders insistence that they had all been “studying and praying” about it for over a year. People had to scramble, they were totally in the dark. A total lie. But Jen had to be served first. Always Jen. And don’t even get me started on how they all rested a beloved elder who grieved for what was happening and who soon died tragically of cancer. That’s a whole other tragedy. These people are toxic monsters. Real wolves in sheep’s clothing.
