Mandate e-verify Show you are serious about going after business that exploit illegal labor
It's gonna kill the Chamber of Commerce/Rotary Republicans who own small businesses in the rural, exurban, and vacation communities. They will never ever ever do it.
A group of eight Senators introduced legislation last week to permanently authorize E-Verify and require all employers to use it. The lead sponsor of the legislation is Senator Chuck Grassley; the bill’s co-sponsors include Senators Tuberville (R-Ala.), Lee (R-Utah), Cruz (R-Tex.), Britt (R-Ala.), Lankford (R-Okla.), Capito (R-W.V.), and Ernst (R-Iowa). E-Verify is an internet-based system that verifies an employee’s name and Social Security number against government records. The E-Verify system, which is currently voluntary and free for all employers, was developed as a pilot program in 1996. The success of E-Verify in weeding out illegal employment has led to the dramatic growth in its use, quickly becoming a bedrock principle of immigration reform that FAIR has pushed for decades. E-Verify has become the most efficient and effective way for employers to ensure they are not running afoul of the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, also known as IRCA. That law, for the first time, made it unlawful “to hire, or to recruit or refer for a fee, for employment in the United States an alien knowing the alien is an unauthorized alien.” Further, the statute (Section 274A of the Immigration and Nationality Act) states that “it is unlawful for a person or other entity, after hiring an alien for employment…to continue to employ the alien in the United States knowing the alien is (or has become) an unauthorized alien….” No democrats. Where are they????
