You don't need a warrant for that.[/quote] I think there likely is evidence but “wiretapping” is virtually never done in these scenarios. “Sting” calls recorded by the other party on the line, yes (depends on the state but this is more doable). Physical surveillance from public space, yes however for the most part there just is not manpower to do it 24/7 for an indeterminate amount of time while the investigation is ongoing and sometimes people who are not being detained slip away. This isn’t that unusual or specific to this case. If anything you would expect that to have happened at this point. It is very unfortunate because I think that suicide is one possible outcome here.
