Here is what we know: The soldiers went to a meeting near the border with Mali. This is a well known hot spot for ISIS activity. Our soldiers were not backed up by US Military air support. They were backed up by the French, who were NOT AUTHORIZED to intervene or fire a shot. Our soldiers did not have armored vehicles - they were sent in pickup trucks. Our soldiers were given faulty intel that said "it was unlikely that they would meet any hostile forces." In reality, they walked straight into an ISIS ambush. Twelve US Green Berets fought a battle with more than 50 ISIS fighters, without help, for 30 minutes. Three died. Finally, a rescue helicopter arrived, but it was NOT a US military helicopter. The US Government has outsourced that job to “private contractors.” The contractors landed and loaded the soldiers, some injured and the three dead. Here's where this gets really bad. The contract helicopter team did not do a standard military head count. Sgt. La David Johnson was LEFT BEHIND. According to the Pentagon, his locator beacon was activated on the battlefield, which indicates HE WAS ALIVE when they left him there. They didn’t recover his body for two days. His widow was told that she could not have an open casket funeral. This indicates that he was mutilated after being left behind on the battlefield. This is NOT like Benghazi. This is far, far worse. But Congress is silent. The Trump Pentagon gave these men bad intel, poorly equipped for the mission, no support, outsourced rescue people and then tried for more than a week to pretend it never happened. In that time, Trump spoke on many occasions but never mentioned it. Tweeting attacks on many but never even mentioning these brave men. Only after pressure from the media did he finally acknowledge these men and their service. And we are allowing Trump to distract us AGAIN from what really matters. And the GOP Congress is silent. Shameful.
Why did Johnson get separated from the team? There are lot we don’t know. Maybe that’s why the government didn’t make public statements for 10 days. After 30 minuets, was there a helicopter being sent to Benghazi? How about after two hours? The casualty rate in Benghazi was 100% because the help never came.
