Only because Schultz proposed it.  Funny how she and Tom scrambled to do something for show - when they practice legislative abstinence more often than not.   Same people voted against Thurgood Marshall too, right?  And didn't Barbara Johns get substituted over?

There is already a Marshall High School.  That had a lot to do with the opposition on that.  Kind of a "no brainer".  Would have required new uniforms, signage, etc. for TWO schools.  Still cannot believe Evans did not figure that out early in the process--but, no, she thought it was a great idea to name it after Thurgood Marshall when the process started.  So did Hynes.

And, the Barbara Johns thing was because Keys-Gamarra  messed up her motion.  She was so determined to name it after Thurgood Marshall.  That's what the NAACP initially wanted and she wanted to make sure that is what they got.  "Justice" was the closest she could get.
