Can someone remind me why Blackfish is under seige and why his castle now belongs to Walder Frey? Can't remember.
Blackfish belonged to the Tully's. Catylyn Stark was a Tully. Caitlyn's nephew married Lord Frey's daughter when Robb Stark broke his promise of marriage and eloped with the Volantis woman. At that wedding, it became known as the Red Wedding where many Starks and Tully's were slaughtered. The groom was thrown in prison and Uncle Tully escaped the massacre. Tywin Lannister gave Blackfish to Lord Frey for his support, and Winterfell to the Bolton's for their traitorous treachery.
Not quite right. The "Blackfish" is a man, not a castle and he is Brynden Tully, Catelyn Stark's uncle. The Tullys are the Lords of the Riverlands and their castle is known as Riverrun. Its current head is Lord Edmure Tully, currently the Frey's captive since the Red Wedding. His sisters, Catelyn and Lysa, married Lords Eddard Stark and Jon Arryn during Robert's Rebellion, forming a powerful alliance of major houses. Lysa was the crazy one whose son Robin became the titular Lord Paramount of the Vale after his father's death, while Lysa assumed rulership as the Lady Regent of the Vale. Lysa married Petyr Baelish in Season 4 and was then pushed by him through the "Moon Door" to her death. Petyr is now the guardian of the whimpy, spoiled Lord Robin who wanted to help free Sansa from Ramsey Bolton earl;ierc this season. After the Red Wedding saw the capture of Lord Edmure Tully and the granting of Riverrun to House Frey by the Lannister's, only Lord Tully's uncle Brynden the 'Blackfish' remained at large. The "Blackfish" assembled what remained of the Tully armies still loyal to his House, and was able to retake Riverrun from the Freys, challenging both them and the Lannisters who supported them.
NP here. Thank you for this explanation! I understood what the relationships were, but it's nice to have it all spelled out for reference. Perhaps you should summarize every episode from here on out?!
But why was his nephew seizing the castle back from him?
