That part was pretty faithful to the books. There was more to Jaime's threats in the books (having former Tully allies being the first to scale the walls and die when the Lannister army stormed the castle, etc.), but again because of the nature of the medium the show writers had to take some shortcuts.

My questions are:

1) with Jaime at the head of the Lannister army, and the kick-ass Queen of Thorns back at Highgarden, what armies does little King Tommen have at this point? And is Cersei now the head of House Lannister (with Tyrion on the run) or Jaime, now that he's eligible since he's been removed from the Kingsguard?

2) if Cersei gets judged (as Tommen has now declared), won't it come out that Tommen's real father is Jaime, and that therefore Tommen's kingship is illegitimate? And with Stannis (and Shireen) and Renly now dead, who would inherit the Iron Throne? http://mashable.com/2016/05/03/game-thrones-heir/#wB4oYHuWLuqt

One of the 'rumors' people think Cersei might have been discussing with Qyburn is the location of Gendry. He is Robert Baratheon's bastard and therefore has more a claim to the iron throne than Tommen.

Also, of course, they could be discussing Jon Snow, although I doubt that she would risk putting a true Stark on the throne, too risky. But a random blacksmith apprentice? More appealing for sure.

Hmmm. But I thought the little birds (spies) were limited to Kings Landing, so how would they know Gendry's whereabouts? Possible, of course ... that is a messy loose end if they don't tell us what happened to him. Or does the whispering have anything to do with Varys returning to Westeros? My thought was that they found some dirt on the High Sparrow, which would be more Kings Landing-centric.

Are you even watching the show? I know its confusing but I feel like the last few questions that have been asked, like if you understand that little of why everything is happening why are you watching?

Someone is going to be all, 'why has Arya been hiding her name for so long?' 'who is cersei???'

Hey, not nice, PP.

I didn't really mean it to be mean. More like seriously, I would not want to be watching a show where I had no idea what was going on. Last night may not have been the most exciting episode but it was payoff for years and years of storytelling. Which is why I like watching, so much coming back around full circle this season. These questions make up like the entire plot of last night's episode, how could that be enjoyable to watch?

WTH was the joke scene all about with Tyrion, Missandei and Grey Worm? That was just bizarre and it went on and on. What a waste of precious screen time!!!

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who thought it was boring. However, I too enjoyed watching Jaimie and Brienne interact. I also loved the subtle smirk on Jaqen H'ghar. I think he likes the way Arya operates. I still can't shake the sense that he's Serio Ferel or a group molding her for some greater purpose in the great war to come.

Was last night's a boring episode, or was I just too depressed/distracted yesterday?

Her mission was to recruit the Blackfish and his forces to help Sansa take back Winterfell. Jamie let Brienne go try to get the Blackfish to surrender Riverrun peacefully and come with her to Sansa. When she failed to do so, the Blackfish gave her and Pod a chance to escape by the river. Jamie saw them but let her go. She is heading back to serve and protect Sansa.

That little wave between Brienne and Jamie was so touching. Cersi brings out the worst in Jamie; Brienne brings out the best. A part of him still wants to be as honorable as Brienne is.

Because B&P serve Sansa, they are technically Lannister enemies. But Jamie protected them instead of treating them as such.

Blackfish belonged to the Tully's. Catylyn Stark was a Tully. Caitlyn's nephew married Lord Frey's daughter when Robb Stark broke his promise of marriage and eloped with the Volantis woman. At that wedding, it became known as the Red Wedding where many Starks and Tully's were slaughtered. The groom was thrown in prison and Uncle Tully escaped the massacre. Tywin Lannister gave Blackfish to Lord Frey for his support, and Winterfell to the Bolton's for their traitorous treachery.

Not quite right.

The "Blackfish" is a man, not a castle and he is Brynden Tully, Catelyn Stark's uncle.

The Tullys are the Lords of the Riverlands and their castle is known as Riverrun. Its current head is Lord Edmure Tully, currently the Frey's captive since the Red Wedding. His sisters, Catelyn and Lysa, married Lords Eddard Stark and Jon Arryn during Robert's Rebellion, forming a powerful alliance of major houses.

Lysa was the crazy one whose son Robin became the titular Lord Paramount of the Vale after his father's death, while Lysa assumed rulership as the Lady Regent of the Vale. Lysa married Petyr Baelish in Season 4 and was then pushed by him through the "Moon Door" to her death. Petyr is now the guardian of the whimpy, spoiled Lord Robin who wanted to help free Sansa from Ramsey Bolton earl;ierc this season.

After the Red Wedding saw the capture of Lord Edmure Tully and the granting of Riverrun to House Frey by the Lannister's, only Lord Tully's uncle Brynden the 'Blackfish' remained at large. The "Blackfish" assembled what remained of the Tully armies still loyal to his House, and was able to retake Riverrun from the Freys, challenging both them and the Lannisters who supported them.

NP here. Thank you for this explanation! I understood what the relationships were, but it's nice to have it all spelled out for reference. Perhaps you should summarize every episode from here on out?!

But why was his nephew seizing the castle back from him?

Because Jamie convinced him to do it (in an excellently-acted scene) as a pawn of the Lannisters/Freys.
