The "I do my own research" crowd is making infant-sized coffins a growth sector. MAGA! Babies Are Bleeding to Death as Parents Reject a Vitamin Shot Given at Birth https://www.propublica.org/article/more-parents-decline-vitamin-k-shot-newborns In almost every case, the babies’ deaths could have been prevented with a long-standard vitamin K shot. But across the country, families — first in smatterings, now in droves — are declining the single, inexpensive injection given at birth to newborns to help their blood clot. Many of them are doing so out of a well-meaning but ill-informed abundance of caution. In the hopes of safeguarding their newborns from what they see as unnecessary medical intervention, they have shunned fundamental and scientifically sound pharmaceutical intervention.
Maybe it’s a blessing to die in infancy if you’re born into a family of profoundly stupid and neglectful people. My elder sister died at six weeks of age because my mother laid her face down on the sofa for a nap then went to have a few Winstons and a chit chat with the next door neighbor. My six week old sister couldn’t move her face to breathe when the sofa cushions blocked her airway. My mother used to tell anyone who would listen that she lost a baby to SIDS - that suited her martyr self image, and certainly sounds much better than ‘I’m a neglectful idiot who prioritized my own addiction over my newborn’s well being.’ My mother was also addicted to my violent drunk father’s sexual attentions and in order to keep them she was happy to let him abuse her children in any and all ways he wished. From the time I was in 3rd grade and knew about my elder sister’s fate, I envied her tremendously. Jesus loves children, you see, while many parents just don’t.
