10 girls seems like a steep price to pay for firing successful coaches (wins and college players placements). Maybe next time Brave won’t fire such coaches to keep a Brave coaching staff. Sounds pretty shortsighted…
20 plus players have left FVU including some of the top players from 2011, 2010, 2009, and 2008/07. There is a reason why the BRAVE leadership has had more last place finishes than champions league appearances on both the girls and boys side. You can’t fix stupid.
Lol! you mean they tried to take that many players but not everybody drank the koolaid, including the 2 hour commute and 25+ rosters!
I’m a current Union parent. Not all players left for Bethesda. Players left for VDA, Arlington, NVA, MD United, as well as Bethesda. It was a poor decision not to bring back the coaches but we move on and hope for a good season.
Union didn’t lose actual coaching talent, but the optics were bad. If it was JUST the players leaving to Bethesda, they’d be fine. It’s losing players on top of that to VDA, Arlington, NVA, etc. that is damaging.
Players leave clubs every year for other clubs or teams. There's a reason there's a tryout period for everybody. This regular movement always occurs in all clubs. But bad optics is the shady shenanigans by BSC once players were already committed and right at season start.
Typically clubs keep their better coaches and get rid of the ones that don’t do well. Typically clubs don’t get rid of coaches that make it to Richmond. Typically after a year when 100 percent of players/parents from a team going through the college process says they will not return if a certain coach (MV) is coaching again, clubs don’t promote that person to ECNL Director. Typically clubs don’t need to lie about who will be the coach at tryouts. Yep keep blaming Bethesda for your problems and then you wonder why there is a mass exodus of talent. Typically clubs don’t need to beg the ECNL to step in to stop players from leaving if they actually had something worth staying for.
And typically people are honest, but not here. It was known in early Spring which coaches were out so this was long before playoffs and Richmond. 100% of players did not indicate that as clearly many more chose to stay than go. All coaching slates were known before tryouts (but for 09s the head coach & asst coach were flipped later). Investigations into violations is ECNLs prerogative.
+1. Total BS to claim FVU “lied” about coaches. Check the March 1 Instagram announcing the coaching slate, no NM or ML in sight. Want to follow them? Fine, don’t commit and let FVU offer someone else in the spring.
