Agreed. Particularly when talking about the W schools and BCC. Math and science are leaps and bounds better than what any of the privates here offer. Plus there are so many more extracurricular opportunities for kids to pursue in the publics. Each of these schools have large cohorts of incredibly smart and motivated kids who go on to great colleges. Gang violence is not an issue at schools like Whitman.

I will grant that privates like Sidwell and NCS probably do a better job with literature and writing. And the smaller class size I'm sure is helpful for kids who need a little more attention. But if you have a smart, motivated, disciplined kid and you live in one of the good school clusters there is no educational or social advantage in spending the absurd amounts of money to go to one of the privates in this area.
