We will take a look at FCV too. They clearly have a strong DA program. We are going to look at all of the DA and ECNL teams. So what is keeping FCV 07 from being clear #1? Someone mentioned depth, any thoughts are appreciated.
For having an 07 you certainly don’t know much about the clubs in the area which means you either 1. Recently moved here 2. Live just outside of the region and are willing to drive 3. Play for a small club the likes of which has never played against the ECNL or DA clubs either in league or tournament play. FCV 07’s have never beaten Loudoun Red as previously stated. Both rosters have maintained their core players. FCV lost to Great Falls last year as the only NPL team they lost too. Great Falls is significant because that team core will become the Spirit DAs team. Always losing to Loudoun means there may be some kids on that team who move over to FCV and they will displace FCV kids. This will be more interesting in terms of DA vs ECNL. Much of FCV’s 07 DA is probably 70% determined at this point. There are kids they know outside of the club likely ready to come. What does this mean for you? Simple, your kid has to be an absolute stud to crack a roster that they will likely limit to 14. And I don’t say this because their players are amazing, just that they will take known commodity’s over a kid they’ve never seen before. The outside kids that they will take they have already seen play in games or have played Super Y with them. They may be outside of the club but they are known players. And, frankly that is how most clubs are. Spirit to a lesser extent but as the Great Falls relationship grows they will also have a known and developed core group of players to start with versus starting from scratch every year with kids who just show up from anywhere. Spirit not having no boots on the ground in youth leagues to even see the players in games to even know who to reach out to has been most of their problem and that will change over the course of 07’s and 08’s. So, your approach to shop the clubs like you are buying a car will only go as far as the talent of your DD but most clubs will not take an outside player who appears to be the same as a player they already know and have seen for several years at that point.
