He’s a new APS parent. He just got married a few months ago.
His website says he got married in 2018, but does it really matter whether he's a "new" parent or not? Or, for that matter, whether he's "just a stepdad" (which is kind of what seems implied here)? He is a stepparent to kids in Swanson and Yorktown, so I think that counts, and it looks like he's been involved with Arlington kids for a long time. My husband is a stepfather and he's a much better dad to my children than their biological father is. But I also don't think that being childless should disqualify you from serious consideration for SB, so maybe I'm not the norm.
NP - No, it doesn't. But to me, it will depend on how he plays it up. It's not like he's been an APS parent bringing kids through the system over the past several years. If he lets that perception form, then I won't have much respect for that. Honestly, I wanted nothing to do with Cristina because of all the reasons more than amply cited on DCUM. But I'm starting to wonder if there may not be some benefit from a non-parent, non-invested, politically aspiring person to spend a few years on the Board. A different perspective might be beneficial, especially as a new superintendent comes on.
