So ECNL guy argues that ECNL is responsible for a high majority of WNT and college players on past decade this showing its dominance over DA. Well no poop Sherlock. GDA has only been around for less than two years. So is WAGS a better platform than both ECNL and GDA since WAGS is responsible for “developing” more World Cup champions and college players?

Your argument is flat out stupid. Soccer in this country including US Soccer is so far behind the rest of the world in developing elite players. The men’s side has been obvious for decades. The women’s side will be obvious in the near future as the rest of the world isn’t sleeping on the women’s game any more.

The GDA solves only one of many issues of soccer in this country - getting the training and game balance and scheduling right.  ECNL has all the problems every other league has, including DA, but also gets the structure wrong (playing overloaded seasons with only 6 true months of attuning. Then our players go to college, which is a great end game for 99.9% of players but will never compete with the rest of the world as national teams that plays 10 months of the year during crucial development ages 17-23.

So the DA is the best we have for the most elite of our players not because of the patch or the name or anything else but only because it at least gets the amount of training vs games vs calendar right. It won’t matter for almost every single player that plays youth soccer but for the most elite we need MUCH better than ECNL and, yes, better than DA.

But anyone saying the GDA going away and making ECNL the only game in town for the top players will be better for the most elite of our players is completely ignorant of how far behind we are in the Men’s game and how quickly we been caught and will be surpassed in the woman’s game.
