“Career prosecutors have recommended against charging Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) in a long-running sex-trafficking investigation — telling Justice Department superiors that a conviction is unlikely in part because of credibility questions with the two central witnesses, according to people familiar with the matter.” https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/2022/09/23/gaetz-no-charges-sex-trafficking/
This is a weird leak that wouldn't originate from DOJ. Almost as if a Gaetz-friendly source is leaking it to make any future prosecution look like it's politically motivated since it would require DOJ "superiors" to overrule the "career prosecutors."
Or the whole thing simply could be bogus to begin with.
Except that many things point to it not being bogus: Gaetz asked for a blanket pardon Joel Greenberg is cooperating with the Feds and has had his sentencing delayed multiple times. And Greenberg's lawyer said this today Greenberg's attorney Fritz Scheller reacts: “I have not received any information from the government regarding its decision to abandon its investigation and prosecution [of Matt Gaetz]. Nevertheless, based on my knowledge of the evidence, I would be surprised by such a decision.” https://twitter.com/JeffWeinerOS/status/1573362022082920448?s=20&t=PjbGt-ca9IyNSI80txPtlA
Aren’t y’all tired of all your allegations fizzling out when it comes to actual prosecution?
