Now that GA showcase is over ... Boom incoming soon!
tomorrow
No additional changes the window has closed.
I’ll admit it, Girls Academy held the line this window better than I expected. Going in, it felt like ECNL had a real shot to make a move and grab momentum, but that didn’t happen. GA didn’t lose any key clubs, and actually added some decent ones. At this point, it’s pretty clear the MLS Next partnership is starting to pay off. There’s more stability, more credibility, and now they’ve got enough traction to really start shaping the narrative instead of reacting to it.
ECNL isn't standing still, tho. They're partnering with the USYS to give more up-in-coming/strong regional clubs an incentive to not seek MLSN/GA. In the past few years, that's where MLSN/GA's new clubs largely came from -- clubs that did well in USYS NL -- and many of these clubs did it because they were losing their best players to ECNL and no longer want to be feeders. They want to compete. So, ECNL would rather stop/control it with the incentive that staying in this league provides opportunities for clubs to eventually get to ECNL/RL, etc. So, with ECNL's help, can this is new N1 league that was just formed do better than E64 OR Premier 1/2 combo with better events/competition/attract college coaches? That's their bet. What's interesting, tho, is so far, everyone favoring this was because maybe it was less travel. Looking at the regions, it doesn't look like that.
