[twitter]

Has anyone received an offer or a decline from VDA yet? We took our kid to tryouts last Wednesday. We’re from a small club, and she was grouped with a player from another club (I could tell by the uniforms). There were about 60 kids on the field, and none of them had numbers, so I’m wondering how the coaches are keeping track of everyone. One coach asked my daughter for her name once, but that was it. We still haven’t heard anything back, and today’s tryouts were canceled. Just curious if anyone else has received any updates?
Has anyone gotten an invite from BP for the final tryouts yet? The email said it would be invite-only, but I haven’t heard anything back.
Nothing yet but wasn’t expecting until today.
I suspect their team was already determined prior to tryouts. Probably nobody getting an invite.
I thought it was interesting how they were encouraging playing for one of their feeder teams to be “seen”. Do they mostly recruit from PWSI and VSA? So many stronger teams to choose from in the DMV, why would they dismiss those players?
Girls at a 2014 tryout to play for the feeder clubs in order to be seen? So they’re saying that if you don’t make VDA you should try to get on one of the RL teams at these clubs to have a better shot in the future?
Should said “They told girls at a 2014 tryout…”
That guidance is the Best Business Practice from the Club's standpoint. You can infer that is the logic, "playing VDA Club feeder RL team will increase your chance to be seen for next year." Those feeder clubs do have coaches that can vouch for the best players and they do have internal clinics at VDA with the best feeder club players. On paper it looks good. But typically, it is easier to make the VDA team being an external player than one who is in one of the feeder clubs after the 1st year. All clubs will take external players at any opportunity rather than promote from within. Financially it makes more sense, the coaches don't ruffle any feathers of the existing jealous families and they already have the family and their money in the club. They are banking on those families to just become comfortable and stay in place propping up their 2nd tier teams. They will take an external player after just 1 or 2 sessions, whereas they will look at an internal player 20 times or more before considering moving them up.
