Has everyone yet seen the Fairfax County Civil Case (requesting a jury trial) brought against Richard Shelton (GFR Exec Director) this week? As part of remedies, the plaintiff seeks: "Plaintiff seeks an order requiring a full, independent forensic audit and financial review of GFR operations from 2021 to present, including but not limited to: a. All compensation, reimbursements, and financial benefits received by Richard Shelton, directly or indirectly; b. All transactions, payments, or agreements involving: i. Total Futbol and its principal(s), including the $446,000 unapproved contract; ii. NVU (Northern Virginia United) and its leadership; iii. compensation discussions or payment and access to GFR’s financial data provided to unauthorized individuals; iv. Loudoun NVA and Futsal clinics, where funds were diverted to Shelton’s personal PayPal account; v. Sterling Soccer and any related merger or affiliation efforts; or personal payments made to Shelton; c. All unauthorized personal uses of GFR financial instruments, including credit cards, PayPal, and Venmo; d. All settlements and severance payouts, paid to any former employees; and e. The use of GFR’s FEIN, name, and brand by external entities without Board approval." (Note:he leased a car in GFR's name without Board knowledge or approval) The suit is public information, filed with the County and a necessary read. It's quite damning against RS, and if true, is a complete breach of both law and fiduciary responsibilities.
It's quite damning if it's true but apparently not a single shred of evidence was attached to the lawsuit - literally NOTHING. It's all rumors still, mostly started by RP and a lot of these allegations are minor truths completely blown up to look incriminating. Also, this guy is suing GFR and RS but RS is likely covered by liability insurance so no money "won" would come from RS directly. The only money that would be "won" by the plaintiff would come from GFR directly, not RS or any board member. Good job costing GFR families MORE money with another baseless lawsuit, RP and your cronies.
That’s not how lawsuits work - you don’t have to prove anything in your complaint. You had to have a reasonable belief that it’s true under ethical rules, but that’s it. If it was made up entirely for example the parties could be sanctioned. However the relief is so much more specific than is required that I’m sure its intentional to demonstrate what is known (and what is likely alleged elsewhere in the complaint).
Whoever brought this civil case just opened themselves up to a counter suit. This could get ugly for all parties involved... and all for what? Slander, defamation, etc.
