I'm a former Republican, now-Independent who gladly voted twice for Hogan, FOR GOVERNOR. First, governor and senator are completely different jobs. The governor is the executive who runs the state. A senator is a legislator who helps craft and vote for various platforms, bills, laws, regulations and so on. He is a member of a large group that really only holds power as bestowed by the party leadership. Hogan is already disfavored by the controlling Republican party. If he gets elected, you can bet that with his views, the very views that people here say are a bonus for him, will mean that he will get no choice committee appointments, no or almost no voice in the legislative process, and will be just a vote. Since there are only 100 senators and 2 per state, that means that you are halving the representative power of MD in the Senate. For those who recall Barbara Mikulski, that is the type of power that a senior senator in good standing with her party can wield on behalf of the state. Instead, you are trying to select someone who like Marjorie Taylor Greene (in the House), is on the outside of her political party and will be muzzled by the party. MTG has already had her committee assignments stripped and is basically a vote, but not a voice in the chamber. Her only voice is outside to the media, but she has no real legislative duties. And she can do very little to get benefits for her constituency. A vote for Hogan is likewise going to strip MD of legislative power in the Senate. Especially with Mitch McConnell stepping down, you can bet that the next Republican Majority/Minority leader is going to be a Trump fawning pawn. There is no way that a Trump backing leader is going to give anything of significance to an anti-Trump junior Senator. So, if you really want MD to have a voice in the Senate, you need to have a candidate that has their party backing. And that candidate is Angela Alsobrooks. Voting for Hogan for US Senate is a waste of a vote.
